Health Care Reform Update – State Based Exchanges

We have discussed in great detail 2014 and what will become a watershed event in the history of health care coverage with the addition of state based exchanges.  At the heart of health care reform is the creation of a federal health insurance option whereby employees, individuals, employers, the uninsured and those that may be under insured can purchase health insurance coverage.  The PPACA health care reform bill  forces each state to establish a health exchange to compete with the private insurance industry with the private insurance industry responsible for providing coverage.  Life is full of ironies.  The states were recently awarded $1 million dollars each to create and staff the exchange.

This article underscores the speed at which health care reform is being implemented.  California signed into law their state based exchange program within the last few weeks and hopes to have it up and running before 2014.  It is my belief that if the exchange program is in place, a movement to pull the trigger on the exchange could happen sooner than 2014.

As always, we appreciate your business and do not hesitate to call should you have any questions concerning health care reform.
